چکیده

This paper investigates the extraction and analysis of temporal and spatial distribution of early sound decay. A method based on B-format signals is adapted for small rooms. It can map the spatial and temporal distribution of sound energy and its diffuseness. Once the data is collected is possible to extract the information in both time and frequency domains and use this to infer issues of perception based on psychoacoustic models. The ultimate objective is to find useful descriptors for characterizing the acoustic quality in critical listening rooms.

Planarity Analysis of Room Acoustics for Object-based Reverberation

Recent work into 3D audio reproduction has considered the definition of a set of parameters to encode reverberation into an object-based audio scene. The reverberant spatial audio object (RSAO) describes the reverberation in terms of a set of localised, delayed and filtered (early) reflections, together with a late energy envelope modelling the diffuse late decay. The planarity metric, original...

Spatial echogram analysis of a small auditorium with observations on the dispersion of early reflections

Classical room acoustics are based on the interpretation of different sound attributes such as reverberation time, clarity and spatial decay. Based on echograms calculated from a microphone array, the dispersion of early reflections is measured and the reflections are identified. In small auditoriums, the method delivers some comprehensive information of the acoustic paths between the source an...

Segmentation and Analysis of Early Reflections from a Binaural Room Impulse Response

In this paper, a novel method for analysis of binaural room impulse responses is presented. Individual reflections are localized in time and frequency from a measured binaural room impulse response based on the continuous cross-wavelet transform (XWT). The directions of the reflections are then analyzed based on KEMAR and CIPIC reference data lookup, and compared a previous approach. Analysis o...

Issues for computer modelling of room acoustics in non-concert hall settings

The basic principle of common room acoustics computer models is the energy-based geometrical room acoustics theory. The energy-based calculation relies on the averaging effect provided when there are many reflections from many different directions, which is well suited for large concert halls at medium and high frequencies. In recent years computer modelling has become an established tool in ar...

Free-field Virtual Psychoacoustic and Hearing Impairment: Paper 775 Does learning a room’s reflections aid spatial hearing?

Sound reflections are abundantly present in everyday environments; yet, our spatial hearing abilities are usually not impaired by them. One contributor to this robustness is the adaptation to the reflections after being repeatedly exposed to the room’s reverberation. The echo threshold, the delay at which a reflection starts being separately audible as an echo, increases with repeated exposure ...
